Not everyone is happy about your right to carry..

Well they are back and at it again. The Maryland General Assembly just started their session and already are trying to violate/negate the Supreme Court Bruen decision. That decision eliminated the arbitrary and sometimes prejudicial “May Issue” laws by 7 states including Maryland.  Now any citizen who is not a felon or otherwise prohibited can apply for a Wear and Carry license and not be hindered by what profession they have or how much money they carry.

Unfortunately, some senators won’t stand for it and have introduced what some people refer to “You can’t carry anywhere  type laws” (which were defeated in other states.)  These shameful laws seek to make almost everywhere in public a prohibited area.

So while the supreme court has ruled personal  protection is reason enough for a law abiding citizen to carry a firearm outside the home, some senators (even thought many of them have a license) are determined to stop regular citizens.

Proposed Senate Bill SB1 – would ban a person from  knowingly wearing, carrying, or transporting a firearm onto the real property of another unless the other has given certain permission; prohibiting a person from knowingly wearing, carrying, or transporting a firearm within a certain distance of a certain place of public accommodation (meaning hotels, inns, restaurants, engaged in selling food or alcoholic beverages for consumption on or off the premises, motion picture house, theater, concert hall, sports arena, stadium, or other place of exhibition or entertainment.). Hey you don’t have to go there just be near and you’re in violation.

Then there’s the same senators proposing Senate Bill SB118 which prohibits carrying on any private property unless the owner of the property has given certain permission or posted a certain sign; prohibiting a person from wearing, carrying, or transporting a firearm in or on property controlled by the federal government, the State government, or a local government.

So a private property owner needs to post a sign saying “you can carry here” or notify you personally, otherwise you can face a fine of up to $5,000 or 2 years in prison (or both).

What can you do?

1) You can write the senators and politely express your disagreement.

2) Support Maryland Shall Issue, the 2nd Amendment Foundation and the NRA.
